NBC aired a contest tonight called "superstars of dance" where teams from 8 different countries performed modern or traditional dances, mostly from their native land, and were then scored by judges.
the team from China's "dance?" Shaolin Kung Fu.
one competitor did a traditional double chain whip form (with an added techno beat), and was then given relatively low scores for "not incorporating enough dance."
No. shit. you. fucking. assholes.
kung fu is NOT a dance! and has NEVER claimed to be! that's like criticizing ballet for not having enough swords.
don't get me wrong, i'm glad the Chinese team didn't compromise the art form by adding body rolls and pop-locking.
i'm mad at the show for exploiting this beautful, centuries-old art as a spectacle to be simon cowell'd in front of a studio audience using ridiculously inapplicable criteria.
