my de-cal

IF i were still at UC berkeley, one of the things I would really want to do is teach a de-cal.
for those who don't know, a "de-cal" is a student taught class, with subjects covering anything and everything from wine tasting, to superman, to blackjack.

for a while i thought about teaching one about kill bill, during this one period when i was really into analyzing kill bill. but i never seriously considered it, and i thought there wasn't enough substance to fill a whole semester.

BUT NOW i found something even BETTER. here is the course description for my non-existent de-cal class:

Marvel Comics' Civil War: Politics and Principles in the Comic Sub-culture or Some Other Equally Relevant-Sounding Tag Line

Students will research and discuss the events and characters of the Marvel Universe's Civil War, the fictional Superhero Registration Act, and their implications and reflections on real-world politics.

This may just be a testament to how nerdy I am, but teaching this class already sounds like fun. I may just start and underground, bootleg de-cal, break into an empty classroom in Dwinelle and start holding discussions and lectures with anyone who shows up.
