-Between a Christian who feeds the hungry to become worthy of Heaven, and an atheist who feeds the hungry for the sake of feeding the hungry, is either one really more favorable in the eyes of God? and which one?
-My international studies teacher at Skyline Community College once said in passing that if bad things happen, then God is either all-powerful but not all merciful, or all-merciful but not all-powerful.
-All that I have come to conceive of God and goodness will not allow me to believe that He would condemn homosexuality any more than He would left-handedness.
-Female priests. Why not.
-my problem with the idea of an "inerrant Bible" is that even divine words and teachings have been filtered through imperfect people, processes, translations, and societies for thousands of years. a game of telephone played across millennia. i believe we should be mindful of what truth has survived this.
-for all the things the scriptures ask of us, they are boiled down into 10 commandments. and then focused yet again into a laser beam of the two greatest commandments. Love God above all, and love your neighbor as you love yourself. you don't hear a lot about these two.
-It is completely in God's power to perform miracles all day, everyday. but instead He has created a modern world with little to no solid proof of His existence. He has created a world that is, for the most part, understandable through science and reason. dinosaur bones, even. Nature, life, love, and goodness... all can function and exist beautifully without belief in the divine.
...and i'm not sure if this makes faith less necessary, or more.
