Lowering the Bar

sometimes when i get a new notebook, i hesitate to write or draw anything in it, because i hold myself to some imaginary standard. like "oh, this notebook is too nice to scribble random notes or thoughts or rough drafts." like i have to keep every page presentable and worthwhile or something. then i end up with a very nice notebook filled with untouched pages.

i get over it by taking a page and writing the most inane, unimpressive bullshit in it. like a shopping list. or a very bad doodle of a dragon fighting a robot pirate. after that, the bar is lowered, and floodgate is opened for all my mediocre attempts at serious writing.

I think this concept also works with blogs. every once in a while i should just write a whatever post, so i stop trying so hard to be hilarious or insightful every time. this post was originally meant to be a "lowering the bar" post, but now i kinda like it legitimately.

funny how that works out.
